The Town of Tuxedo's earliest occupants were the Lenni-Lenape Indians. The Indians named the largest lake in Tuxedo “Tucseto” meaning either “places of the bear” or “clear flowing water”.
Tuxedo is located in Orange County in the beautiful Ramapo Mountains. Tuxedo is located in the southeastern part of the county. Some towns that border Tuxedo are Sloatsburg and Harriman. Routes 17 and the NYS Thruway pass through Tuxedo.
Tuxedo Park which lies within the Town of Tuxedo is a gated community and was once home to many wealthy New Yorkers. The formal wear takes it’s name from the Town of Tuxedo Park.
Tuxedo’s attractions include but are not limited to Harriman State Park, Sterling Forest State Park. Sterling Forest State Park hosts the New York Renaissance Faire annually.
